4 Comments I HAVE to wash this lucky shirt of mine!!
I just don't want anybody screaming at me if the Cubs lose one of these days. Just in case, I 'll have it sitting by in the dryer a mere 7 feet away from me when I do, thanks to the addition of the t.v. I now have installed in my new basement office at home... allowing me to watch the game, work on this site and play a little Monopoly against that bastard computer who always seems to roll doubles, and land in jail when it's broke. I've got this.... relax. Besides, they simply can't win them all! Can they?!
I don't know if any of you read about my lucky shirt. For those who are new to this rag, or just short on memories... allow me to fillyou in a bit, so take a little stroll down memory lane... won't you? http://www.blrag.com/sports/2008/4/19/my-lucky-shirt-and-the-betrayal.html
Now when I first wrote that piece, I kept the shirt on continuously... trust me, i have witnesses. I guess over time, and due to time since it was the end of April, I trickled off from the day to day repetitive wearing of the same old blue t-shirt. Also, I haven't been able to find another just like it, ANYWHERE on the internet (I even tried googling it just for a picture to post here), and I didn't want to wind up destroying the thing before the end of the season. I certainly didn't want to ride it to death.
So I slacked. I admit it. I didn't give up hope, I just started to find the whole idea a bit silly. I mean, c'mon!! How could little ol' skinny, sitting in little ol' Iowa, have any true affect on the day to day workings of this wonderful team. I can't! Can I?!
But I have to be honest with you folks...
.... really really honest with you here:
the Cubs... have NOT lost... EVERY TIME I've WORN THAT SHIRT!
(and yes... I was wearing it Friday when they came back down 8-0... for the record)
So now I'm kinda scared to even take it off, but I simply HAVE to wash it people, there's just no doubt about that. It's only been washed twice since the season started... and this past week I've worked long hours, on fairly warm days, mowed twice, worked on the wife's mini-van, painted my new flag pole (for my new Cubs flag) and even used the shirt to clean up a couple small messes... courtesy of my ALMOST 2 year old. Thanks to her, and others, it's been smacked around, kicked around, tugged on, sweated on, drooled on, and even cried on. It's the day to day grind all tucked into one small piece of cloth, a brief recap of the days behind me as I look forward to the next first pitch. Makes me not even want to cover up the smell with cologne anymore. I'll wash it... just not today.
(although... that last hit at the end had me a bit scared... whew!)
GO CUBS!!

Skinny, my enthusiastic friend:
Say what you will about the power of that farkakta shirt, but when you've got a pitcher with an 2.51 ERA and a .366 batting average, such typically "Cubbish" superstitions seem a tad too naieve, no?
i keep trying to tell myself that same thing
9 wins in a row...
For the love of GOD, please tell me you're not still wearing that shirt!!! LOL
uhh... i don't know.... umm... maybe?!
just don't come near me...
i MEANT to wash it last night...
maybe I'll do it tonight... we'll see.
