Only One Word to Describe it...

Shellacked.  Slap.

I had to do a spell check to make sure that it was described properly,  but one thing I had no doubt about was it's meaning.

If I cared to embelish I'd also add :

Synonyms:

annihilate, crush, drub, overpower, smash, steamroller, thrash, trounce, vanquish, shellac

How else does one describe an outing like the one John Lieber had today?  He had 4 home runs hit against him in just the 2nd inning alone,  not the kind of record one likes to aim for.     The only thing the Reds' fans stuck around was to see if 3B Joey Votto could hit his fourth home run of the game...   talk about pathetic.  And I can't even point the sole blame on Lieber (although it is awfully hard for any hitters to get too motivated after sitting through that disaster),   Check out how the rest of the Cubs' pitching staff faired:

Chi CubsIPHRERBBSOHRERA
Lieber (L, 2-2)2.07550243.80
Marshall 2.02223224.15
Gallagher 2.04221114.50
Howry 1.02000006.61
Wuertz 1.00000104.50

I think it's safe to say,  gone are the good ol' days of solid, dependable pitching day-in and day-out.   I'd even settle for every-other-day,   but I ask too much at times.    Welcome to the starting rotation Mr. Lieber,   now if you'll just follow me I'll show you where the door is.  Right this way!
