Fans Of Yeah Yeah Yeahs Will Love Grown Up Avenger Stuff's "Sparkleton"
Some bands meander around playing empty pubs and complaining about lack of exposure, when others seem literally desitined for mass appeal, bursting out of the gates with all kinds of speed heading in all directions. Grown Up Avenger Stuff, lead by the charismatic vocalist Deirdre Kroener, is such a band. They've drawn many comparisons to groups like Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, not necessarily for stylistic reasons, but for a combination of raw energy and professionalism that reasonably puts this comparitively small-time band in the same field.
They've recently released their brand new album "Sparkleton", and it's a potent blend of indie rock, pop, and surprisingly, hard rock reminiscent of acts like Queens of the Stone Age. It all melds together well, the fusion of styles providing more of a kick in the pants than what you'd expect from today's indie rock. The music is creative and, well, you can tell the musicians are having a good time...not self-serious, which is refreshing. In support of the new album, the band are running through quite the string of tour dates, listed below. Also, they've unveiled a new music video for the very catchy "The Man".
