80's Extravigaza Part I

kwAwk here.  I had thought that since it was Black Friday I would put forward some really dark depressing music to set the mood.  But then it occurred to me that that isn't really the meaning of the black in the day, so instead I thought instead since I'm filling in for Fornax I would carry on with the type of music he would approve of.  We both seem to be fans of '80s music so that is where we'll go.....

We'll start with a band that we're both fans of.  From Manchester, England a band that produces 'suicide music you can dance to' and are one of the greatest names in true alternative music.   The Smiths and Rubber Ring.......

Following it up with the lighter side of The Smiths with 'Girlfriend in a Coma'....

While I don't care much for his politics, Morrissey is without a doubt the finest lyricist I've ever heard.

I don't know much about is politics but Morrissey is certainly on the weird side. The Smiths were great in my opinion because of the contrast of the pop inspired music of Johnny Marr with Morrissey's morse lyrics layered on top. It captured that same contrast as having John Lennon's cynicism layered in with Paul McCartney's upbeat shining optimism.
