Chrissie Hynde was as close to the Sex Pistols as was Siouxsie, and even tried to get Johnny Rotten to marry her so she could stay in Britain. After flailing for a bit trying to go beyond being a scenester, Malcolm McLaren recognized her talent and got her the connections to form The Pretenders. First is their 1980 single, Stop Your Sobbing (which is actually a Kinks cover), and after that, Boots of Chinese Plastic from last year's Pretenders album, Break up the Concrete.
