Why didn't I stop watching this mess after the first hour?
Well, it wasn't entirely awful. Other than a childish screenplay, making a hash of the original book, bad acting, the totally unnecessary insertion of left wing jabs, and it being overly long and full of crappy filler, it was ok.

Just watched the original 1971 version. Not a great film by any means. Slow paced, often clumsy book adaptation. Severely dated. But still better than the new one.
