Franken Covers - Minn. Dems Sweat

Well, the comedian who isn't funny seems to be digging his hole deeper, engaging in a coverup of his tax problems.  Somehow I doubt that will sell to the voters.

Except for the most rabid partisans, ethics do matter.  And when Franken's own party is discussing replacement candidates, he must know the long knives are out.

What was the title of that book again?  Al Franken is a Big Fat Idiot?

What Really Matters at the White House

Thanks to Dr. Thomas Sowell, there is new emphasis on the things that matter in this presidential race.

His point is that Barack Obama is not just flawed on a personal level, not questionable only because of his associations with some very sleazy characters.  Obama is flawed most significantly in the way in which he would address the crucial issues of our time.

This column should be posted on every blog and discussed on every radio and television news show.  This is the stuff that should frighten everyone about the prospect of a President Obama:

Moral Equivalence

Karl Rove:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120951606847454685.html?mod=opinion_main_commentaries

"Another McCain story, somewhat better known, is about the Vietnamese practice of torturing him by tying his head between his ankles with his arms behind him, and then leaving him for hours."

So, um, now, putting prisoners into stress positions is torture?

Or, it’s not torture when WE do it?

Or, um, it IS torture when we do it BUT IT’S OKAY BECAUSE IT’S US DOING IT, making it OK by definition?

I get so confused.

Did She Do It?

The first thing that came to mind is 'how many people this lady could have taken down if she really wanted to?'

I think Larry Flynt agrees with me on this one:

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/01/dc.madam/index.html

Sure seems AWFULLY convenient for certain powerful people.    I really can't wait to read those TWO suicide letters she left behind (sounds like the work of an overachieving madaam).

HAPPY CODPIECE DAY!

"[CHRIS] MATTHEWS: What's the importance of the president's amazing display of leadership tonight?

[...]

MATTHEWS: What do you make of the actual visual that people will see on TV and probably, as you know, as well as I, will remember a lot longer than words spoken tonight? And that's the president looking very much like a jet, you know, a high-flying jet star. A guy who is a jet pilot. Has been in the past when he was younger, obviously. What does that image mean to the American people, a guy who can actually get into a supersonic plane and actually fly in an unpressurized cabin like an actual jet pilot?

[...]

MATTHEWS: Do you think this role, and I want to talk politically [...], the president deserves everything he's doing tonight in terms of his leadership. He won the war. He was an effective commander. Everybody recognizes that, I believe, except a few critics. Do you think he is defining the office of the presidency, at least for this time, as basically that of commander in chief? That [...] if you're going to run against him, you'd better be ready to take [that] away from him.

 [...]

MATTHEWS: Let me ask you, Bob Dornan, you were a congressman all those years. Here's a president who's really nonverbal. He's like Eisenhower. He looks great in a military uniform. He looks great in that cowboy costume he wears when he goes West. I remember him standing at that fence with Colin Powell. Was [that] the best picture in the 2000 campaign?

Damn liberal media.

Hillary Speaks; Truth Loses Again.

If Mrs. Clinton, by some miracle, becomes the nominee, I hope she continues down her well-worn path of being truth-deficient.  Voters are catching on.  Questions are being asked when she tells whoppers.

This story of hers is so obviously flawed that the only reason she could have had for telling it was that she regarded her audience as rubes, suckers and morons who would believe anything, including the Tooth Fairy legend.  Somehow I doubt that will gain her much traction.

This is a shame.  I had hoped she would gum up the works by winning Indiana, but at this rate she will throw that opportunity away.

LDS - Laura Derangement Syndrome

Never heard of Laura Derangement Syndrome before?  Neither had I.  But apparently Mrs. Bush is the worst thing to ever happen to the White House, according to this sage at the San Francisco Bird Cage Liner:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2008/04/30/notes043008.DTL

I'm really not sure whether to laugh or shake my head over the lunacy that drove the columnist to write such an astoundingly angry, totally undeserved, vile, insulting attack on Mrs. Bush.  She's too quiet, and that rates this sort of spleen-venting?  She doesn't shout and make folks cringe like Teresa Kerry, so she's a horrible person?  The mind boggles at this sort of anti-logic, it really does.

Well, here's hoping the columnist can get back on track, leave Laura Bush alone, and focus his laser beam-like wit on Mr. Bush instead, as all good leftists are supposed to be doing.

Obama Spins, Trips, Falls Down

On my way into the office this morning, I listened to a recording of the Obama version of the Kansas City Shuffle, otherwise known as his press conference dealing with his pastor's latest crazed rant.  Amazing, listening to a once-polished speaker like Obama trying, and ultimately failing, to distance himself from Wright.  I could almost hear the sweat beads hitting the podium.

But in fairness to Obama, what could he say?  After being a member of Wright's congregation for 20 years, Obama was left with no cards to play but the bent, torn, and water-damaged "I had no idea" card and the "That's not what I stand for" card and the "I never heard him say that before" card.

There simply is no good conclusion to draw from any of this.  Either Obama is a total dunce and for 20 years had no clue what sort of a hateful foolish racist his pastor is, or Obama is a liar.  And no one, friend or foe, thinks Obama is a dunce.

Who Is Really Against Voter Fraud?

Excellent article on the newly upheld Indiana anti-vote fraud law.  The Supreme Court did well to uphold this.  Senator Obama cannot claim the same high ground.  Quite the opposite, it appears.

Thank You, Israel

As Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs points out, we owe Israel a big thank you.

While we piddle, twiddle, and diddle over how best to accomodate the Palestinian Arabs, including the ones who want Israel erased from the map, more sensible heads in Israel take action to prevent the unthinkable.

Imagine Syria with just a couple of nukes.  That scenario, even if the bombs are not set off, might send the whole region into irreversible chaos.  So Israel took the step that was required, and the only option remaining.

So yes, thank you, Israel.

Obama's Handling of the 3 am Phone Call

Obama%20at%203%20am.bmp

"Hello,  this is President Obama.

Hello??!      HELLO?!!

Is this a prank caller?

Secretary Gates?

Are you screwing with me again?

Hello?!!      HELLO!!

Hmmm...     Must have been a wrong number. "

:: click ::

It's 3 am,  and somebody is going to have to take that call!   For the sake of all of us,   I pray to GOD it's not Barrack H. Obama,  or the next ringing he hears may be the result of a nuke.

Barry!   Homie!!   Brutha!!!  (modified that just for you Chops)  If you're going to pose for the 3 am phone call (what?  no p.j.'s?),   for Pete's sake PLEASE practice holding the phone correctly.     Once you've nailed it a few times in a row...  THEN get the camera crew!

Hello?!!   HELLO!!!

John McCain Doesn't Understand the Modern economy

"Sen. Obama wants to raise the capital gains tax, which would have a direct effect on 100 million Americans, [McSame says].

"That means he has no understanding of the economy and that he is totally insensitive to the hopes and dreams and ambitions of 100 million Americans who will be affected by his almost doubling of the capital gains tax."

Anyone want to argue that all those middle-and-working-class people who hold stock through IRAs and 401(k)s will be affected by raising the capital gains tax? Redbeard? Zoy? Bueller? Anyone?

Illegal Fundraising Knows No Party Loyalty

First Hillary Clinton accepts illegal campaign help from a foreign national, and now John McCain has done the same thing.

One simple question comes to mind.  What are these people thinking?  The possible answer, in my cynical mind, is that the arrogance and hubris of great power, the idea that they are somehow above the law, has caused this.

It's time to slap down this sort of behavior and bring politicians back to earth.  They are not only no more important than the rest of us, but they are our employees.

But... But... But... Isn't the U.S. a Pariah?

Some common sense talk from Down Under:

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,23599516-7583,00.html

In addition to thoroughly puncturing the oft-told non-sequitur that we're losing all our friends, note in particular the admonition against weakening and running away from Iraq.

It's quite pleasant to read something like this, in the midst of the hailstorm of leftist nonsense being purveyed on a daily basis.
