Brandon Raub Released by Mental Hospital After Being Taken into Custody by the FBI Over FACEBOOK Posts

Who knew this could happen in America?   Certainly not Brandon Raub.

After submitting these posts on Facebook Brandon Raub was taken into custody by the FBI and forced into an exam at a mental institution.    Some of the stuff he says can be pegged as extreme in nature.... but arresting him and forcing a health evaluation?

Did the FBI go too far?

Thankfully his mom was vigilant in fighting back also through social media and keeping people informed of what was going on.    Her actions clearly helped free her son because without her and the amplified comments of many bloggers, Occupiers, Tea Partiers, etc...  we may have never know just how far the FBI was willing to go just to silence somebody they deem "crazy"  (a word so loosely defined).

His words may even have been prophetic.   On July 24 at 12:34 pm he wrote:

I feel like I am standing at a great crossroads.   As if a storm of destitny is about to pick me up and take me to fight a great battle.     A battle I could have never imagined existed.

Well, he certainly knows now.

(Remember Brandon....   be sure to hug and thank your mother)

Special kudos goes out to Circuit Judge W. Allan Sharret who declared that the commitment order granted to federal authorities for Brandon Raub’s arrest and detainment was invalid after a special hearing yesterday.

Raub's case has created an online firestorm from both sides of the political spectrum.    Those dubbed as the "extreme" on both the left and right side of the aisle have come together in protest over a government that went beyond its authority by imprisoning a man over what he said, in a country that claims to protect the freedom of (all) speech, no matter which way it leans politically or factually.

Maybe someday the MSM will start picking it up.

lmao Gotta love that Patriot Act huh?

I'm serious, how do we know it was the Patriot Act?

August 24, 2012 at 12:25 | Unregistered CommenterThomas Miller

Because it's gotta be Bush's fault... somehow... anyway they can come up with it.

Duh.

(Kwawk's seems to be of the "Bush's fault FOREVER" mentality.)

There's also another veteran that's been declared mentally defective despite previous VA psychiatric evaluations saying otherwise, in turn leading him to have his guns taken away. You see, in some states you lose the right to purchase guns if you're even admitted into a mental institution. You gotta ask if this was a poorly executed strategy on the government's part to involuntarily commit this individual as a preventative measure.

I know, what a handy tool for cracking down on political dissent, right? I hope the GOP is paying attention to how the Dems are using it. Very instructive...

lol Don't know what to tell you guys. There were a lot of predictions during the Bush years that you guys wouldn't be so fond of the Patriot Act in all of it's glory once a Democrat got into office and started to use it. If you read criticism of Obama from the left a lot of what you'll hear from people like Glenn Greenwald is bashing Obama for using all wonderful new executive powers he inherited from George W. Bush and Dick Cheney such as assasinating American citizens in foreign countries.

I don't know much about this Brandon Raub and what comments he made were that sent the hackles up at the FBI, but surely you guys can admit that the whole precident of the domestic spying in the US using the internet and such to data mine originated with the Bush administration.

At what point do you denounce Dems for their contributions to the Patriot Act, its continued use and variations that come about?

Before or after we kill and/or imprison more US citizens?

Tune would probably be different if this were happening under Bush, right?

If you read criticism of Obama from the left...

The Left criticizes Obama?!? What a bunch of racists!

I denounce the Dems for allowing the Patriot Act to go on now. But I also remember my history and how Dick Cheney and his type spent years telling the American people that Democrats wanted the terrorists to win because they wanted more checks and balances in the Patriot Act.

Or how certain people said that Democrats wanted to engage in therapy sessions with terrorts....

I love therapy.

I have little problem with the Patriot Act as it is designed and for the purposes for which it was designed. I am delaying any further comment or criticism on this story until I know more about all the circumstances that may have led to his arrest.

I will say that this -"I feel like I am standing at a great crossroads. As if a storm of destitny is about to pick me up and take me to fight a great battle. A battle I could have never imagined existed." - does have the sound of someone who just might be dangerous to those around him. Put those words into the mouth of someone like say, a James Holmes, and they might fit nicely into a pre-thought process for opening up with gun fire in a packed theater.

Or for that matter, into the mouth of the guy who killed two and injured 9 in NYC today. Correction, it was the gun that committed the violence not the man holding it according to mayor bloomberg.

kwawk;

I would love that link where Cheney said the democrats want to the terrorists to win to put checks and balances in the Patriot Act.
