Weekend Open Thread

Humorist Will Rogers once said, "The only difference between death and taxes is that death doesn't get worseeverytime Congress meets."

With Obamacare deemed Constitutional as a "tax" by the Supreme Court and the United Nations calling for a 'Billionaire Tax' to help poor countries, it doesn't seem like there is any relief in sight. Let's not even talk about what's going on in France with their brand spankin' new self avowed socialist president,

Evertt Dirksen is attributed with the quote, "A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon, you're talking real money." Actually he never really said that. One gentleman said that he had asked Dirksen about it on an airflight and received the reply: "Oh, I never said that. A newspaper fella misquoted me once, and I thought it sounded so good that I never bothered to deny it."

The thread's what you like.

There's no money shortage. Obama done said so.

The gubmint has tons and tons of money that those congresscritters pick right off'n the big ol' money tree in Washington, so they can dang well afford to pay my mortgage. And give me a tax "refund" of taxes I never paid in the first place.

The trouble is them eveeel conservative tea party folks who want to keep gubmint from buying me a big screen TV. Why them folks wanna be so mean, you s'pose?

I don't remember if it's Winston, kwawk or Choy (does it matter?) that always makes fun of Romney's assertion that the Russians are not our friends and should be viewed as a strategic threat. Copy and paste the link below and read about the unilateral actions by Obama to degrade our nuclear and strategic air command of which the Russians are testing. We even know the bases the Russians are targeting yet we’re shit canning the defenses for those bases. Btw, if you have any relatives at these the two bases mentioned in the article, tell them to request an immediate transfer. Obama doesn’t give a shit about them.

Tom, I've been to Russia several're right, although the people there are wonderful folks, their government is not our friend...nor theirs.

Y'know, the only reason that communism didn't work in the USSR was that the wrong people were running it. Now that we've got Obama, Pelosi, Reid, et al, we can make it work. Utopia is right around the corner.

Sorry guys; I just realized that the link was left off when I was having some issues on this site yesterday. The article was from the Washington Free Beacon and Drudge has a link to it.

Wanted to share something in an open thread and did not have time earlier in the weekend.

I have worked in the same industry for 35 years and have attended way too many meetings and conventions, being exposed to many, many speakers on many subjects. Recently I heard a gentleman speak whose message was so moving I felt I should share it with the good folks at Blrag.

The speaker was Aaron Thomas. Parts of the story are likely familiar to many here. It is a horrible sad story, but a story that involves a family that reacted to the unthinkable with grace and forgiveness. Unbelievable forgiveness.

The main part of the story.

And on the very same day that Ed Thomas was murdered, Aaron Thomas spoke to the media. This is his entire statement.

The book is titled The Sacred Acre.

A moving presentation. The Thomas family immediately realized that the entire community needed to come together, much as they had done in the aftermath of the tornado. They were concerned with the 22 high school student/athletes who were present in the weightroom at the time of the shooting. They were concerned with the family of the shooter.

Aaron left his teaching and athletic director job at another Iowa high school to return to Parkersburg, where he took his father's job as Athletic Director. Aaron is also an assistant football coach.

Something I did not know: As Coach Thomas surveyed the damage to the high school football field on the day of the tornado, he found lumber protruding from the field, stuck like toothpicks. He found the bleachers twisted and thrown onto the field. And as he was deciding that the field could be readied for football as a way to give some hope to the community, he asked a friend, a former player from one of his very first teams, to take on the portion of the job to get the debris of the bleachers cleaned up. The person who gladly accepted that job was Mr. Becker, whose son would later shoot Coach Thomas 5 times in a fit of delusion.

W.... T.....FUCK?! BEAN BAGS?!?

Oh sure, we can give assault rifles to Mexican drug cartels, we can okay drones for use over American cities... but God forbid we allow our border patrol agents to use REAL FUCKING BULLETS TO DEFEND THEMSELVES!!

Meanwhile Obama, (with)Holder, Pelosi, Reid and the rest of their merry band of incompetent, anti-gun, shit-for-brain leftists in Washington ask themselves... "How did this happen? Wasn't Brian Terry specifically instructed to run and hide... and only as a last resort rely on throwing items like shoes and purses if the problem escalated? It's not our fault, he shouldn't have been shooting... he should have been hiding!"
