Obama Sends Peace Prize $$$ To Charities
(Adapted from CBS News)
The $1.4 million award associated with the Nobel Peace Prize will be distributed to the following charities:
$250,000 -- Fisher House, which provides housing for families of patients being cared for at major military and VA medical centers.
$200,000 - The Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, which raises money for long-term relief efforts in Haiti
$125,000 - College Summit, which partners with schools with the goal of increasing college enrollment;
$125,000 - The Posse Foundation, which awards scholarships to "public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential who may be overlooked by traditional college selection processes";
$125,000 - The United Negro College Fund, which offers scholarship and internship programs for more than 60,000 students per year;
$125,000 - The Hispanic Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships and offers outreach support to the Hispanic community;
$125,000 - The Appalachian Leadership and Education Foundation, which offers scholarships and leadership curriculum to young people from Appalachia;
$125,000 - the American Indian College Fund, which distributes scholarships to American Indian students and provides support for tribal college needs.
$100,000 - AfriCare, which offers programs in Africa addressing health and HIV/AIDS, food security and agriculture, and water resource development.
$100,000 - the Central Asia Institute, which promotes education and literacy in remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan with a focus on education for girls.
The President has asked the Nobel Committee to disburse the money directly to the charities, so that he will have neither tax liability for the prize nor tax deductions for their contribution to charity.
That looks like a pretty worthy list of recipients. I think that donating the award to these charities is a good way to close the book on the story of his as-yet-undeserved Nobel Prize.

Good for him. I would have thought a Christian would have tithed on it though.
Do you tithe on things you don't receive, or were you just unable to comment without a dig?
He may have deferred it, but he definitely received it. Touchy, ain't cha...
Some time ago, I really needed to buy a good car for my firm but I didn't earn enough cash and couldn't order anything. Thank heaven my friend adviced to try to get the loan from trustworthy creditors. So, I did that and used to be satisfied with my car loan.
The United Negro College Fund, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, the American Indian College Fund; Obama's covered most of the racial bases but nothing for GLAAD? Their going to be pissed.
Do you always make it a habit to question another citizen's religious practices? We're talking about Dear Leader here, who was about as deserving of the Nobel as I am of the Pulitzer. The self-involved narcissist decided he wanted to be President, and as such, is open to whatever "dig" I decide to throw at him.
wes, while I admire your zeal in rushing to the prick's defense, you really oughta realize the guy just isn't that into you...
Spam, distraction, or is Shelly Newman just really happy about her car loan?
You decide.
Actually skinny, she says she used to be happy with her car loan.
Just sayin...
Wow, wingnuts even criticize President Obama's generous contributions to charity. Talk about derangement syndromes!

Perhaps...I was just amazed that you couldn't even bring yourself to compliment his decision to donate it all to charity without taking a dig on whether he tithed. *chuckle*Dhimmi wrote:
I think that most of our regulars/editors would agree that we're pretty open about such things here. If you actually read the comment thread, you would see that I was responding to GrayRider, who did exactly that - do you have some righteous criticism for him? While we're at it, I hope you'll drop by our "Christians Unwelcome in Beckistan" thread and drop a little condemnation on Mr. Beck for doing the exact same thing...It spoke volumes to me.
