are we taking bets again?

Is tonight "Victim Night" for the dems or is it "Anti-Military Night?"

August 25, 2008 at 09:42 | Unregistered CommenterThomas Miller

Oh, by the way - Dave Barry's take on the convention(s) is worth the read. *grin*

How long will we need to wait for the first Hillary supporters hissy fit?????

August 25, 2008 at 10:33 | Unregistered Commenteropinioned

this week... odds are:

1.1 to 1 - that Olberman says something ridiculous...
1.5 to 1 - that Matthews gets a tingly feeling up his thigh...
2.0 to 1 - that Michelle says something worthy of it's criticism...
5.0 to 1 - that Biden tries to spin the "lack of experience" statements...
9.0 to 1 - that Hillary has a total meltdown... and....
100 to 1 - that Denver reminds us of 1968

August 25, 2008 at 10:36 | Unregistered Commenterskinnydipinacid

You know your convention is off to a bad start when....

"Instead of the traditional plastic cards, the Sheraton in downtown handed guests Visa-sponsored swipe cards "made from sustainably-harvested wood." The plan lasted all of a few hours. By Saturday night, enough guests had reported problems getting into their rooms with the wooden cards that the front desk clerks had abandoned them and switched back to the plastic cards. A clerk said they were now handing out one of each and suggested that the wooden one could kept as a souvenir."

Wood hotel room cards? LOL.

August 25, 2008 at 11:20 | Unregistered CommenterThomas Miller

"sustainably-harvested wood hotel room cards" >

That IS pretty funny. Thanks for forwarding it.

August 25, 2008 at 11:34 | Registered CommenterWinston

Oh, how precious. Good grief. Why not make the room key cards out of arugula?

Btw, the street parade fashion show started over the weekend. Some truly FABULOUS outfits there.

August 25, 2008 at 11:34 | Registered CommenterRedbeard

I've actually had wooden key cards during my travels in Europe. I noticed that they were a bit thicker than the plastic; I guess they didn't really test them with their locks. It's still pretty funny...

August 25, 2008 at 11:43 | Registered Commenterwesmorgan1

It's predominately the lefties out protesting in Denver. Perhaps 'wingnuts' might be better applied to them.

August 25, 2008 at 11:50 | Unregistered CommenterZoy Clem

Zoy, after looking over Zombie's story, I think the use of the word "wingnut" to describe the protesters is a gross insult to hardware items.

Look at these moonbats.

August 25, 2008 at 13:20 | Registered CommenterRedbeard

Jason Mattera, poking at the road apples. Too funny.

Check out the "dude" who thinks everything will be dandy if he can just get Russia to "smoke up."

Meanwhile, back at the convention floor, the Clintons' version of the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang (or is it The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight) is going to snub Obama.

This is gonna leave a mark.

August 25, 2008 at 17:44 | Registered CommenterRedbeard

Question:

Is MSNBC's panel(s) running a forum? or a pep rally?
They can't seem to keep themselves from cheerleading from the sidelines.

If Obama doesn't get a bump from this convention...
you can pretty much blame it on MSNBC...
people just don't want to watch them.

They're not winning over anybody they haven't already won over.

August 26, 2008 at 23:13 | Registered Commenterskinnydipinacid

Well, here's an honest question - and I'm asking this in the sense of general politics, not specifically Democratic or Republican. Isn't the presence of dissent on the convention floor a healthy thing? I'd hate to think that either party is working in lockstep across millions of voters and scores of delegates.

The GOP is working hard to eliminate such a picture at their convention; in the particular case of Ron Paul, his delegates have been challenged by the GOP higherups in Missouri, Nevada, and elsewhere.

Sure, the general public's perception is bolstered by outward signs of unity at a party convention, but isn't there a place for dissent?

August 27, 2008 at 04:39 | Registered Commenterwesmorgan1

Dissent, of course. Chaos, anarchy, open rebellion, internecine warfare, not so much.

August 27, 2008 at 06:07 | Registered CommenterRedbeard

dissent is one thing...
I'm a firm believer in "competition is good for business"...
that ideology caries over pretty well in politics as well.

I wouldn't even complain about the chaos...
my biggest complaint is all the reporters running around BEFORE these politicians' speeches are given, reporting on what THEY think the upcoming speaker is set to talk about... I know they don't write the speeches for them, but are they getting notes? or do they think they actually have that much influence over the Democrat party.

I would suggest that MSNBC hire on some shrinks... fast.

August 27, 2008 at 07:32 | Unregistered Commenterskinnydipinacid

Hillary's speech 'supporting' Barack Obama last night was like a bunch of women getting together after there dates and discussing what a dud the guys were but giving them faint praise for at least being on time.

Barack, good luck getting those over forty women who are partial to hiking boots to vote for you.

August 27, 2008 at 07:34 | Unregistered CommenterThomas Miller

Did any of you catch Morning Joe yesterday?

Check out the blowout between Joe and David Shuster... wow!
(sorry I wasn't able to embed this video.. blame Huffington and MSNBC)

August 27, 2008 at 07:37 | Unregistered Commenterskinny

Skinny;

I heard about. Scarbourgh finally had enough od Shuster's b.s. and his "independent" stance. Shuster says he votes independent. LOL. Right, yeah Dave we believe you on that one.

August 27, 2008 at 07:40 | Unregistered CommenterThomas Miller

I love the rip...
I'll bet all you MSNBC guys have Independent marked on your voter registration cards...
classic

August 27, 2008 at 07:43 | Registered Commenterskinnydipinacid

Redbeard, it's hardly "anarchy" or "internecine warfare." A few people are being loud and drawing attention, but we see this sort of thing in every election. Remember when there were tons of disaffected McCain delegates in 2000 who swore they were going to jump ship instead of voting for Bush? That didn't happen...and I don't think the Democratic defections are going to happen, either; at the end of the day, most partisan voters come home.

August 27, 2008 at 07:47 | Registered Commenterwesmorgan1

I love the 'class' of the MSNBC outdoors set where in the background behind the talking airheads you have signs being held up that read "Impeach Bush", "F..k Bush","F..k Cheney" and a donkey mounting an elephant. All for people to see. You stay classy MSNBC.

* I did laugh at the one sign held up by a women saying "Rachel, I Think Your Hot" must mean Rachel Maddow is gettin' some while at the DNC losers rally.

August 27, 2008 at 07:56 | Unregistered CommenterThomas Miller

Well, be honest, Thomas - if they DIDN'T show those protestors, you'd complain that they were "covering for the DNC," right? *grin*

August 27, 2008 at 08:14 | Registered Commenterwesmorgan1

It's one thing the Extreme Right never seems to get: the damage they inflict on their own credibility when they insist that perfectly normal political party convention we're all looking at, replete with loud attention-seeking people in funny hats, is actually a chaotic, anarchic riot going up in flames requiring immediate attention from the National Guard. Hee hee hee!

August 27, 2008 at 08:49 | Registered CommenterWinston

Rosie says;

" A normal political party convention...., replete with loud attention seeking people in funny hats" What convention are you watching, reruns of the 1952 DNC convention? I don't remember a "f..k Eisenhower" or women in the crowd with signs hitting on on the female anchors. Yes America, your Democratic party on display.

August 27, 2008 at 09:33 | Unregistered CommenterThomas Miller

Ooooh, the Extreme Right boogeyman again. Wrong terminology. It's the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. Learn it, love it, live it.

And we're having a whole lot of fun laughing at the street freak show.

The Marxist guy in the wizard hat who was leading the mint levitation project was particularly amusing, as was his sidekick who complained that we're living in a police state because he can't get enough marijuana.

August 27, 2008 at 09:38 | Registered CommenterRedbeard

Well, we're certainly going to see the extremes. The Democratic Convention has dissent, no small amount of theatre and its share of loons. The GOP Convention, on the other hand, will be a carefully choreographed show of unity...because, as noted above, they've been fighting tooth and nail to silence other delegates at the state level. There were several states (other than the two I mentioned) who simply decided to make their delegate slates unanimous for McCain, even if Romney/Paul had won delegates in the actual primary vote.

All the talk about Marxists, Socialists, Communists and the like, and it's the GOP that will have the first-ballot 100% vote for McCain. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

August 27, 2008 at 13:05 | Registered Commenterwesmorgan1

The dems sooo want to make this convention the model of apple pie, mother and the American flag. What we get is lesbians in the crowd hitting on anchors, f..k Bush signs, Ward Churchill rallies, marijuana man and 9/11 truthers. I would call it a circus but that is an injustice to the circus; they know what there doing.

August 27, 2008 at 13:21 | Unregistered CommenterThomas Miller

Ah. Party unity is a bad thing.

Wait... what's that I spy, hanging from that branch, just out of reach? Could it be... yes, yes, I believe it is... SOUR GRAPES.

August 27, 2008 at 13:24 | Registered CommenterRedbeard

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Extremist Righties are soooo funny.

Of course, if things were different, they'd only ruthlessly deride the officers or shepherds of a more disciplined Democratic convention for being those fascist authoritarian ('member Liberal Fascism?) oppressive overlords who won't abide their vassals wandering off the plantation, so ya can't win.

Gotta play to your strengths, I spoze. Petulant whining, attacking, leveling thoroughly inconsistent or even self-contradictory criticisms, and marinating in their overweening persecution complex, that's just what the Extreme Right does and is good at.

Governing and accepting responsibility, well, not so much.

August 27, 2008 at 14:00 | Registered CommenterWinston

Wow, that's what I call a retort with a lot 50 cent words, fury and not much effect. Keep it up, my vocabulary is expanding by the day.

August 27, 2008 at 14:44 | Unregistered CommenterThomas Miller

"Overweening" has always seems a bit dirty to me.

August 27, 2008 at 14:51 | Registered CommenterRedbeard

"Overweening" IS dirty.

I'll simplify it for Tom: stupid complaints are what you're good at. Stick with that, and leave governance to people who know what they're doing and think it's worth doing competently.

August 27, 2008 at 14:56 | Registered CommenterWinston

How about discussing Michelle Obama's use of Saul Alinsky's words in her speech? Not just once, either. She must really like the guy.

August 27, 2008 at 15:01 | Registered CommenterRedbeard

From what I've seen Thomas provides honest opinion. There's nothing stupid about them, even if some may disagree with them.

August 27, 2008 at 15:02 | Unregistered CommenterZoy Clem

The David Shuster/Joe Scarborough video was hilareous.

Though for all of the bluster Shuster nailed Scarborough when he challenged him to call McCain's bluff on mocking people calling for a time table. Joe quicky changed the subject. Classic.

August 27, 2008 at 16:33 | Unregistered CommenterkwAwk

OK, you're absolutely right, Zoy old bean. I should have been clearer. My bad.

Stupid complaints are what rightwing extremists generally are good at, and they should stick to that rather than attempt to govern, which they do very poorly with striking consistency.

Thomas himself is an entertaining, convivial, adequately intelligent and occasionally rather witty fellow with whom I enjoy jousting when splainin to these idiots has not exhausted him outright. Any identification or confusion of Thomas with stupid rightwing extremists was not intended nor should such intention be inferred. Plus, I admire his taste in neckties.

Keep posting, folks. We love you all.

hey kwawk... what the hell took you so long?

Winston... I have trouble picturing you in a necktie.

you know... I couldn't find a single tie-dye necktie on the internet!
we should make one, market it with Winston in mind and make a fortune.
Tie-die neckties could be the new piano-key ties!

August 27, 2008 at 17:23 | Unregistered Commenterskinnydipinacid

Skinny,

Perhaps a Che tie?

August 27, 2008 at 17:55 | Unregistered CommenterMachiavelli

and make them smell like patchouli... or sandalwood incense...

... I like where we're going with this.

August 27, 2008 at 18:32 | Unregistered Commenterskinnydipinacid

Rosie & the gang;

Trust me, no offense taken. It won't be the last time I'm associated by the left with "stupid right-wing extremists." As for my written prose, I like the Mark Twain method of sarcasm and contrast to make my point. For those to dense to understand the process and can only grasp "the essence of the point if wrapped in a veribose tirade". it may be a tough transition. For most, I'll grow on you and you'll eventually get it or forever be lost like a Jeremy Bentham riddle.

Can somebody PLEASE tell Chris Matthews that the Denver weather isn't helping his comb-over.

August 28, 2008 at 00:10 | Registered Commenterskinnydipinacid

It's mussed due to the vibrations from all the Obama-induced leg-tingling.

August 28, 2008 at 06:52 | Registered CommenterRedbeard

Biden's V.P.Speech:

1). Talks about our brave troops, nearly silence in the hall. How very democratic.

2). Biden seems to think he has been right since Vietnam on all foreign policy issues. Doesn't discuss the surge and his claim it would never work. How interesting?

3). Does a good job of positioning America as have and have nots. Were all victims. Let's shed a tear.

4). Barack Obama has the experience and fortitude to be a great President. Joe, your practicing Catholic and for that whopper you must go to confession this morning. Bad Joe, bad boy.

August 28, 2008 at 07:37 | Unregistered CommenterThomas Miller

Tom, what's the dilly? Was Jeremy Bentham famous for riddles or something? Or was there a particularly famous Jeremy Bentham riddle?

Now you've puzzled me.

August 28, 2008 at 08:43 | Registered CommenterWinston

"Biden seems to think he has been right since Vietnam on all foreign policy issues"

Actually, Tom, as far as Biden’s foreign policy chops are concerned there’s plenty to like, even if we quibble about the details, while it really is quite striking how consistently McCain’s foreign policy judgments have tracked George Bush’s, and, like him, proved to be completely, disastrously wrong.

August 28, 2008 at 09:07 | Registered CommenterWinston

Bentham's

"Nature has placed mankind under the governance of two sovereign masters, pain and pleasure." Oh how does one guide his life.
