Sorry. But This Is Huge.

Remember that guy caught on videotape offering Presidential access in return for large checks to the Bush Library foundation? Well, he runs a company that peddles political influence at landing oil and gas leases in “politically uncomplicated”, “often misunderstood” and “turbulent” countries. And they’re advertising to potential customers that one of their fattest and most attractive assets is . . . one of McCain’s most senior advisors.

Yawn.

Wake me when one of this guy's 'clients' actually recieves some "peddled influence".

If you want to post something "huge", how about the fact that the NY Times will run a op-ed from Hamas, but not one from McCain?

Machiavelli, don't you remember that McCain "purged" the lobbyists from his campaign? It was in all the papers...

Mach, I just posted (after wrestling with the new editor code for a while) an entry on the NYTimes/McCain brouhaha. Go wild. (grin)

Sorry. But This Is Huge.

Rosie,

For one of the few times you've stumped me. The title opens up so many angles but I'll just leave it for the posters here to think about there own retorts. LOL.

Wes,

So its "huge" when politians make false campaign promises? Sounds quite normal to me...

See, I’m so old-fashioned I’d think it a problem (not to mention tacky) if one of a Presidential hopeful’s most senior advisors was openly shopping his influence on the market, particularly if my campaign was premised on “independence” (or “Mavericky-ness”).

But when your “base” is the right- and corporate media, it isn’t even worth remarking on.

"But when your “base” is the right- and corporate media"

John McCain needs to get the NYT on board.

Machiavelli, it is really bad when a senior campaign adviser is peddling his influence in this fashion. If nothing else, it gives the impression that McCain is available through this guy. The effect is compounded by the fact that new exploration (i.e. new leases) are in the political spotlight right now, with McCain coming out in favor of such. Despite our shared cynicism on campaign pledges, it IS a problem that McCain still doesn't have the lobbyists out of senior positions.

At the very least, it's yet another monkey wrench in the Maverick Machine.

At this rate, Wes, I might begin to believe you're not a McCain guy.

Perfect circle completed.
