Bring On The Two Minutes' Hate

Posted on Friday, July 18, 2008 at 14:20 by Registered Commenterwesmorgan1 in | Comments9 Comments

Courtesy of the Miami Herald:

One of John McCain's fellow POW's in Vietnam defended the war in Iraq, saying, "The Muslims have said either we kneel or they're going to kill us.''

In a phone call with reporters arranged by the McCain campaign, Colonel Bud Day added: "I don't intend to kneel and I don't advocate to anybody that we kneel, and John doesn't advocate to anybody that we kneel.''

Let's all reread Twain's "The War Prayer".  You should have just enough time to complete this task before we're told that--despite the campaign's explicit arrangement of the call--Day doesn't speak for McCain.

Y'know, after due consideration, I don't believe I'm going to kneel either.

Not all great authors are great philosophers and not all great philospohers are great authors. Think about when reading Twain's "War Prayer."

This is probably the most ridiculous post so far.
Wes... you'd kneel? Is that a fair statement?
or does one half have nothing to do with the other?

I'm still trying to see the wrong in McCain's statements...
... this must just be an instance where we 'agree to disagree'

What was "wrong" with what Col. Day said is that it predictably sent the left into near-apoplexy.

Maybe it was the fact that he didn't add formal footnotes to his off-the-cuff comments, in order to add the PC phrasing: "of course not all Muslims want to kill us."

But then, anyone not understanding what he meant is deliberately not understanding him, so that's a moot point.

I believe Col. Day has earned the right to say whatever the [expletive deleted - Wes] he wants. Period.

Once again, guys, you miss the point in your chest-thumping.

The largest Muslim population in the world? Indonesia.

Muslim countries allied with the US: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar, Bahrain...I could go on.

Muslim countries attacked by Muslim terrorists: Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Indonesia.

If you don't see a problem with a Presidential adviser talking about "the Muslims" as some monolithic group, you should. Every time some bozo does this (and I can say that with all due respect to COL Day; heroism doesn't immunize you from mistakes), our enemies have another recruiting video.

Gee, you mean kind of like ranting about the use of "bomb" instead of "bombs?"

I wasn't ranting; I was laughing.

Mach, please watch the language, ok? Thanks.
