Yep, let's use athletes as pawns some more. Great idea. Make a political statement on the backs of kids who have worked their whole lives to get to this one competition.
This nonsense, combined with ongoing rampant doping, makes the Olympics more and more irrelevant. I stopped watching long ago. Maybe the Olympic Games are past their prime and should be retired to the dustbin of history.

Maybe they were afraid the Israeli would beat them.
An Iranian thinks boycotting an Olymic race that has an Israeli competitior is going to be news? Kind of like Tibet dropping out of the basketball competition. Note; the Iranian swimmer would have got his ass kicked when he got to Bejing.
And that is a prime example of how NOT to become the best you can be.
And like T.M. said, when I think of great swimmers, Iran doesn't spring to mind.
I'm with Zoy; he was probably afraid of what would happen to him if he were to lose to an Israeli.
Does anyone think this swimmer made his own decision not to race?
