They Intend to Continue Stealing Until the Door Is Locked Behind Them and We Pry Their Cold Dead Hands Off Our Wallets

As dday piquantly puts it
“The Republican ethos in the Age of Bush has been to use government as a vehicle for profit-taking”
and that’s richly illustrated by the fact that through the Treasury’s Department basically unilaterally repealing Section 382 of the tax code we taxpayers seem to have just handed American banks a windfall of up to a hundred and forty billion, let me spell that out, one hundred and forty thousand million dollars.

I dunno about you, but I worked HARD for that money.

Why are we supposed to be outraged about $140 billion when Congress has already bailed them out to the tune of $700+ billion?

Or is this just another excuse to bash Bush?

I seem to recall Republicans were the heartless basterds for not voting for this the first time? Now it's Republicans/Bush's fault? Man that Obama election party has killed more dem brain cells than ever. They can't remember who there accusing for what and if they did so earlier.

I don’t need any more excuses to bash Bush, thanks, Mac. I’m well-stocked in that Department.
What’s going to be critical is whether this sort of now-routine gaming continues under a new Administration.

To your question as to why we should be outraged:
1. If you’re not, you’re not paying attention.
2. My impression is that the $140 B is PART of the $ 700 B.

Tom, stop acting silly about the bailout bill. There were strong arguments on both sides but I also seem to recall widespread acknowledgement that the way it got administered would be almost as important as whether it did or didn't pass. And this ain't a good start.

1. I was outraged about the original $700 B. I've been outraged since the entire bailoutpallooza began.
2. If the $140 B is simply part of the $700 B that a Dem-controlled Congress passed, then what's the point in attacking the Bush Administration over it?

If the goal is to bailout a troubled industry, what difference does it make if we throw a pile of our money at them or let them keep a pile of their own money?

Rosie;

I'll try to tone down the "silliness."

After Janaury 20th your life is going to be misearable w/o the daily rant of some Republican injustice to moan on about. Since the executive & congress are in lib hands, I'll sit back and watch the spinning for why this happened or not. LOL
